Team Sessions: Show Up And Tell

Get your team saying it.

A facilitated team session that gets people saying what they've been sitting on, and each of them leaving with one thing they'll actually do.

What it is

A facilitated morning where your team says the things they've been avoiding, and commits to what they'll do about it.

Show Up And Tell is run by me, Olivier Nicholas, an ICF and EMCC accredited executive coach. It runs on a deck of question cards I designed from my one to one coaching work, so it's my own method rather than something bought in. You're not in the room, so people speak freely.

The value is in what each person walks out with: something said out loud that usually goes unsaid, and a specific commitment they'll act on.

Who it's for

For teams of peers

Everyone in the session works at the same level. Nobody in the room manages anyone else in it, so people can talk openly.

Owner-led businesses

Any team of four or more people who work alongside each other, whatever your business does.

Hear what your team has been thinking, and what they're ready to act on.

Larger organisations

Groups of managers or leaders at the same level, usually booked by HR or the learning and development team.

Gets your leaders talking about what they've been putting off, and committing to what they'll change.

How the morning runs

Five stages, one commitment

1

Identity

Each person picks a card describing the kind of person they want to be at work. It shapes how they answer for the rest of the morning.

2

Awareness

Naming what's really going on: the patterns, the frustrations, the things on repeat.

3

Truth

In a safe space, people say what usually goes unsaid: the conversation they've put off, the decision that's stuck.

4

Action

One specific commitment each. Who, what and by when, said in front of the group.

5

Close

A short reflection on what shifted and what each person is taking away.

What you get

It doesn't stop when the morning ends

After the session

The themes

The patterns that came up in the room, anonymised and talked through with you privately.

After the session

The commitments

Every commitment the team made, shared with you while keeping who said what private.

Day 7

Check-in

I check in with each person to help keep their commitment moving.

Day 30

Owner call

A call with you to talk through what's changed since the session and what's made the biggest difference.

Nothing leaves the room without the team's full agreement. That protects everyone. We have that conversation openly, before anything makes its way to you.

From an owner

It actually enthused me, because it shows they care and want to know where we're heading. A really positive list, very manageable, and I'm genuinely excited.

Why commitments stick

642 studies

Plans that name exactly what you'll do and when reliably beat good intentions. They work best when people want the goal and go back over the plan, which is what the day 7 check-in is for.

Questions owners ask

Before you book

Why can't I be in the room?

Most people hold back when someone more senior is listening, whatever the topic. Without you there, the conversation goes further, and you still get the themes afterwards.

Will I find out who said what?

No. Themes and commitments come to you without names, and nothing leaves the room until the team has agreed to it.

Is this a team-building day?

No. There are no trust falls and no ice-breakers. It's a structured, facilitated conversation that ends with each person committing to something specific.

What do I need to do beforehand?

The session is a space for your team and me. About a week before, share the invite and the details with your team yourself, so they hear it from you. I can help with the wording if you'd like.

Who can take part?

Groups of four to eight people at the same level, with nobody managing anyone else in their group. Larger teams are split into groups, which also means people who manage each other can be kept apart.
